Why Product Weight Listed Online Differs from Shipping Weight

Shipping Weight Explained
Shipping carriers like FedEx, DHL, and UPS use two different methods to calculate shipping costs.

Your final shipping charge depends on whichever weight is higher.

1. Actual Weight
Actual weight is the real physical weight of the package placed on a scale.
For example:

Package on scale = 36 kg
Actual weight = 36 kg

This method is usually used for compact and heavy items.

2. Volumetric (Dimensional) Weight
Volumetric weight is based on the size of the package, not just the physical weight.
Large packages take up more space during transportation, so carriers calculate shipping weight using package dimensions.

Common Formula
Length × Width × Height ÷ Dimensional Factor
Examples:

FedEx / UPS: ÷ 139 (inch system)
DHL Express: ÷ 5000 (cm system)

If the dimensional weight is higher than the actual weight, the carrier charges based on the dimensional weight.

Why Website Weight May Differ From Actual Shipping Weight
For example, the 36 kg listed on our website is an estimated chargeable shipping weight based on standard packaging and average carrier calculations.

However, the final shipping weight may vary slightly because of different factors:

  • Packaging size differences
  • Carton deformation during packing
  • Carrier measuring methods
  • Volumetric weight calculations
  • Rounding rules used by shipping companies

To avoid unexpected shipping issues, we usually leave a small safety margin when listing estimated shipping weights.

Additional Electric Features
If you customize additional electric functions, extra motors and internal components are installed inside the doll’s body.

This will increase the final package weight and may affect the courier’s chargeable shipping weight.

Final Note
FedEx, DHL, and UPS always charge based on two calculation methods:
✅ Actual Weight
or
✅ Volumetric Weight
Whichever is higher.
We always do our best to provide accurate shipping estimates before shipment.
